The 2007 trip was so enjoyable that Ron/Kim and Brian & I booked our rooms in the B & B for an extra 2 nights for his year's trip.
Thursday the 24th we met up at 8 am for an early start. Ron had scoped the weather and decided we would have better luck south of the Lake. Unfortunately, we did have a couple of heavy downpours but the route was a nice change and there was some great scenery. What a time for Brian's wipers to cross. Ron yanked the passenger's blade out and the problem was resolved. It did make it a little more difficult to do my driving from the passenger seat.
When we arrived in Vineland, we were treated to quite a spread of wine/cheese & lots of other goodies. Before long it was decided that we would order pizza as everyone was enjoying getting reacquainted.
On Friday our host offered to take us on a tour of the Niagara region. We drove through beautiful countryside and saw many points of interest. After lunch was provided by our hostess (she really didn't seem to understand the concept of B & B - it was more like bed and eat all day). Our breakfasts looked like Martha Steward had OK'ed them all. Two more couples joined us and we went off on a private wine tour of Eastdell Estates. More tasting, history, and purchases before we headed back to the pool for happy hour and an outing to the local pub.
Saturday our host took us on a tour of Niagara on the Lake. We got a chance to shop and pick up our cases of Corvette Wine from the Reif Estate and do a little more sight seeing.
Then back to the routine of beer and coolers by the pool. In the evening we attended the BBQ meet and greet with the Vetter's from Sudbury and the Niagara Club. Another great spread.
Sunday morning we had a chance to get a photo op with the Orchard Chariots before we headed off to the Show. This Club has an impressive record of funds they have raised for the Children of the Niagara area in the years they have been hosting this event. There were over 330 registered vehicles with a good ¾ of them Corvettes. They had so many prizes donated that everyone received a door prize. We were entertained watching a fellow sell a 2004 Florida convertible and a 2003 Georgia Convertible for $30,000. Each. We did pass up the wine tour, as there was a lot to keep us amused and we did attend last year. Everyone was very friendly and definitely a great show to see.
This was one of the few times I had ever seen Ron and Kim driving with their tops on. Weather was to blame on the way down and going home it was the only choice in order to hold all the extra wine. We rolled home in more ways than one.
We would all highly recommend the Atherton House as a B & B and the Niagara on the Lake Car Show. |

Brian, Janet & Kim - no this isn't their latest family sportster - it is the wagon used to pickup peaches and cherries.
