Luskville Drag Day, October 4, 2008
Luskville Drag Day, October 4th, 2008

As expected, the morning was cloudy and c-c-ccool but at least there was no rain. All information said the track was open, so 5 racers showed up on Bate Island for the trek north. Rick, Barry, Rob, (and surprise!!) Neal & Larry with son Levi (who got the job of official photographer), were in attendance. After some talk about how slippery the track will be and some other issues, we decided the world had now been saved and it was time to hit the road. Barry took the lead with Neal in tow and we enjoyed a brisk and very scenic (the leaves are changing) drive along Rue de la Montaigne.

As usual, we were the first ones there and were told there'll be a delay in starting as Arnie was trying to get the tower operator out of bed.  No matter, we all ran for hot chocolate at the Luskville "Pit Stop Restaurant" then stood around chatting and moving around in hopes of finding some sunshine for warmth. Pretty soon we were on the track and was it slippery? OH YEAH. The reaction times were terrible as a result but it was equal for everyone. Neal said he was there to spectate but it didn't take much to get him in on the competition. He announced in the middle of the second event that he was having a whale of a time.

After a few time trials the dial-ins were decided and we were ready to go when, WHAT'S THIS but here comes another Corvette in the form of former champ Ross. He made a couple of runs and NOW we were ready to go. Now we were 6 racers.  After Rob's win in the first round of the first event he announced that that was the first time he had ever won a round. Ross commented that "maybe you're on a roll" and on a roll he was going on to win the first event and getting to the final in the second event only to be defeated by Barry as a result of Rob running .003 seconds under his dialin. Rob won 5 rounds in a row, pretty darn good in anyone's books. Rick won the third event against Ross. (that slippery track thing again).

The day ended with smiles, handshakes and regrets that this would be the last event of the season.  Oh yeah, the sunny came out brightly for the first time that day, making for an enjoyable ride home for all.  Barry decided to take a different route home for a change. Hmmm.  Maybe he had a feeling there would be a roadblock on Mountain Road and he would finally have to pay for all his high speed tours.

Movie 1 - Barry & Ross

Movie 2 - Ross & Richard

I had my happy-snap still shot camera which has a video feature on it.  I shot a couple of poor quality, shaky videos that take a long time to download and buffer.  Frankly they leave you wanting more.  If you have patience and understanding and are curious anyway click on the little Icons above.  Your movie player should open and then you wait while the large file downloads.

Most will find the wait intolerable, however other members, for example - Ron Rail, who spends most of their day at work looking at this stuff - will have no problems waiting for the download.
