For those C3
drivers with automatic transmissions and the bigfoot syndrome (size
12-13 feet like me) driving can be an unpleasant chore. The brake
pedal is very close to the gas pedal and it takes a conscious effort
not to be pushing on both at the same time. This detracts from the
driving experience. One tends to adopt a tippy-toe position at the
bottom of the gas pedal.

Based on a tip at the
Corvette
Forum I decided to reduce
the width of the metal component of the brake pedal by about one
inch. This will allow a new and narrower rubber brake pad to be
used. It is from
NAPA
and is used on C1500, C2500, and C3500 trucks.

As usual measure several times
before making that cut. A mistake will mean pulling out the dash
assembly in order to install a new pedal. Not an easy job! Here is
the pedal measured off.

Careful use of a Sawzall and some
wood damping medium to reduce movement/vibration leads to this
result.

And here is the new rubber pad
installed with the new distance between gas and brake pedals.

And this is the new look.

Driving is so
much more pleasant now!
Many thanks to
my Brother John (1979 L-82) for his excellent work with the Sawzall
!!
