Brian and Suzanne set out on a venture in September that most of us only dream of doing. They jumped in their Corvette and started heading west and didn't stop until they reached British Columbia.  The rest of the itinerary includes traveling to California and then boarding a ship for a cruise to Hawaii.  When they return to the mainland they will do a cross country trip across the southern US and temporarily end their trek in Florida.  Yes, they will don their snowbird wings and winter in Florida continuing their ride home next spring when the fairer weather returns to the northern landscape.  Quite the trip indeed!

The question eating at most is how do they fit everything they need into the trunk of that Corvette?  However they are doing it - happy travels - we can't wait to hear all the stories about your adventure over a cold beer when you get back.

From Brian, September 24th: Just to let you know that the Canadian leg of our trip ended a couple of days ago. Great scenery through the rockies and to Whistler. Have been on the road the last two days going through the Oregon and California coast. It was like being at Calabogie and Watkins Glen at the same time and doing it for twelve hours straight. Sue is now more petrified of cliffs than ever.

The vette has never been so dirty, may never be the same again. Both the vette and I performed very well though.

We are now in San Francisco, don't ask how much parking is costing, it is ridiculous. Got the vette cleaned and there was light traffic getting into San Fran...thank the God for that.

From Suzanne, September 25th: The Canadian leg of our road trip is over, it was amazing. We have begun the US portion of the trip, first stop was Seattle, really enjoyed Seattle, visited the Space needle, Pike Market, Pioneer square, downtown Seattle, we take the hop on hop off tours they are great, they bring you to all the major attractions in the city and it is not too expensive. Scenery was beautiful on the drive and the size of the redwood trees are unbelievable, we actually drove the car through a tree in Leggett, California! We have now been in San Francisco for the last couple of days, great city lots to see and do, again took the hop on hop off buses and visited major attractions, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Union Square, Lombard Street, Alcatraz, really interesting, took the trolley, lots of fun. Tomorrow we are heading for Santa Barbara and then Vegas.

The island of no escape - Brian and Sue thought they had it figured out how they would have escaped if locked up in Alcatraz Prison - but it was the swim to shore after the breakout that was going to be the real challenge.  Strong currents, hungry fish and cold waters - probably not a good idea.  Good thing there was a tourist boat for the ride back from the island to San Francisco.

Doesn't look very inviting - does it?

You can just hear the steel doors clanking shut.

Perhaps Al Capone or the Birdman of Alcatraz's cell?

This place could use an HGTV makeover ... and just to set the record straight - there is no truth to the rumor that Suzanne wanted to leave Brian on the island.

September 28th from Brian:  In answer to the question about how they fit their luggage into the trunk of their Corvette; Brians says, " The picture shows whats in the vette....and yes there is still room for the top to go down. What a challenge!! "  I think we all agree - they are master packers.

 Red Tide Coming In

October 2nd from Suzanne: Spent a day in Santa Barbara, very nice, before heading to Vegas where we spent a couple of days, it was hot, very hot in the high 90s, 100. The hotels in Vegas are something to see, erupting volcanos, sinking pirate ships, gondola rides, talking statues, Eiffel tower, you name it they have it, it goes on and on very entertaining. Went to see Viva Elvis, by Cirque du Soleil, really, really good, Had a great time and actually didn’t leave too much money at the Casinos.

Now in Carlsbad, California, very pretty place and friendly people. Last night we watched what they call the red tide, the surf coming in is a florescent blue, incredible. You can google it “San Diego red tide”. Tomorrow we are off on our cruise.

October 20 from Suzanne: Greetings, back from our cruise, loved Hawaii. In Hilo we took a helicopter tour over an active volcano, went snorkeling in Kauai (Nawiliwili), In Honolulu, Oahu did an Island tour, had a great time but you would definitely need to be there for a couple of weeks to see it all. We missed out on one of the islands as the cruise ship had to rescue a sailboat with three passengers, that was exciting in itself but it took a day and a half away from our cruise time, which unfortunately meant we had to cut out the island of Maui but happily saved the lives of three people. Also, spent an evening in Ensenada, Mexico. We are now in Los Angeles for a couple of days, and then off to Arizona. Take care.

October 27 from Suzanne: For family and friends who wanted us to do these updates, so you could keep track of us, this will be the final one. We are a few days from out last destination, Florida for the winter. LA was fun, especially enjoyed the tour of Universal studios, also took a tour of the city, nice. Arizona was great, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Petrified Forest and Painted desert, amazing! We hiked the Red Rock Canyon, that is where you find out how out of shape you really are! I think it had to do with the altitude, hey that’s my story and I am sticking to it! We also visited Meteor Crater, one of the best preserved craters in the world and also the first proven. Drove through Roswell, N.M., Area 51, no alien sightings to report :)! Then off we went to San Antonio, visited The Alamo, very interesting, enjoyed that and toured the city and Riverwalk. It was a wonderful trip, visited some amazing places, met a lot of nice people and got to do it all with my best friend. Live everyday in happiness and joy, love and kindness.
